Bootcamp 2.0: Some things can drive you batty

On occasion, I need to boot my Mac into Windows XP,
via Apple's wonderful Boot Camp,
for some minor task. But today, I needed to also
update XP to handle that particular minor task,
which of course means that BootCamp has to be updated
first.

After several hours of trying to get BootCamp 2.0 to
update to 2.1 ( and then 2.3) so i could get XP SP3
applied, which it would NOT do because the BootCamp
2.1 updater kept failing repeatedly,
I finally stumbled upon this fix here:
BootCamp 2.0 to 2.1 has problems with Video Drivers Blocking Update Process.

I am reposting it here so as to save my sanity if I ever have
to do this again. Who knew that some Microsoft installed
video driver could cause an Apple update to not install
properly?
